The CACA has been committed to the development and care of the community for a long time and has made donations many times. On November 21, 2020, the “Caring for Community Mental Health” cloud seminar hosted by the Canadian Alliance of Chinese Associations, undertook by United Global Chinese Women’s Association of Canada、Canada Shandong Chinese Business Association and Canadian Youth Union Foundation., was successfully held. The keynote speakers were Dr. Hermia Wang and Dr. Li Peizhong, BC Provincial Councilor Teresa Wat, and Burnaby City Councilor James Wang attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The meeting was hosted by Mr. Han Changfu, and a total of 118 people participated in the event.
Mr. Rayman Wei, the current chairman of the CACA, gave a speech first. He said that this mental health lecture is one of many charity activities we have done, and it is also our performance in serving the community during the epidemic. We want to be rooted in the community and serve the public, with down-to-earth work and selfless dedication, to contribute to the harmonious development of all ethnic groups and the maintenance of Canadian multiculturalism. Dr. Hermia Wang is a Canadian national certified psychologist and a registered clinical psychologist in BC. She shared with you the six major aspects of seeking help and self-assitance for depression, how to seek psychological assistance in Vancouver, how to become an emotionally stable person, how to improve parent-child relationship, how to get along with and guide depressed family members, and emotional self-care during the epidemic. Dr. Peizhong Li is a PhD in psychology from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, USA, and has published many papers in psychology journals. He explained how to treat depression correctly and how to get rid of depression from four aspects: analysis of incidence of depression and related mental health problems in Canada, depression screening questionnaire, how to treat depression, and depression management. To judge whether a person suffers from depression or is on the verge of depression, Dr. Li’s questionnaire is clear at a glance, which can arouse everyone’s self-alertness and manage their mental health in advance. Counsilor Teresa Wat told everyone to treat life with a positive and optimistic attitude, especially during the epidemic, to understand the true situation of the epidemic through official channels, and to manage your emotions by diverting attention. Burnaby City Councilor James Wang expressed his praise and support for the CACA for holding a lecture on mental health care during such a special period.
